NUMBERS & NOTES
Hello, and thank you for visiting my recruiting page! My name is Grant Barber, a junior from North Carolina, and I’m passionate about tennis, academics, and leadership. As I prepare for my junior year in high school, my goal is to play at the collegiate level the Fall of 2026,while continuing to excel academically. Balancing my dedication to tennis with my strong academic performance, I’m committed to finding a university where I can thrive both on the court and in the classroom, particularly in the fields of business and finance.
In addition to my tennis achievements, I take pride in being a youth leader at my church and serving as the spokesperson for my high school's first-ever Black Student Union. I also enjoy giving back by mentoring younger players at the tennis academy I attend.
I appreciate your interest in my journey, and I look forward to the opportunities ahead!

My tennis journey has been nothing short of amazing—rewarding, full of growth, and uniquely my own. While many players start at a young age, I’ve only been playing competitively for the last three years, yet the progress I’ve made has been transformative. I’ve gone from a UTR 1 to a 4 in this short time, having transitioned from being a standout basketball point guard and record-breaking track star. As a multi-sport athlete, I’ve always thrived on fast thinking, strategic plays, and my exceptional speed.
The athletic foundation I’ve built has given me the tools to excel in tennis—being coachable, hardworking, and disciplined. What excites me most is how I’ve been able to apply these attributes to mastering the technical skills that tennis demands. Every step of my journey has only deepened my love for the sport, and I’m fully committed to realizing my dream of playing tennis at the highest level.
Training 20 hours a week and competing in two tournaments each month, I’ve embraced the balance between intense training and the pressure of tournament play. This balance has become the key to my growth, and I welcome the challenge wholeheartedly. I’ve come to realize that tennis isn’t just a sport—it’s a personal journey of self-determination and constant improvement.
Tennis has not only refined my athletic abilities but also shaped my mindset. It’s taught me the power of patience, strategy, and resilience. While I’ve always been a team player in other sports, tennis has pushed me to new heights by teaching me how to handle adversity. In tennis, you’re fully responsible for every decision, emotion, and effort you put into a match, and that responsibility has strengthened my character in ways I never imagined.
I am eager to continue my tennis journey, fueled by a passion that grows stronger each day, knowing that I’m on the right path to fulfilling my dreams.

GRANT'S
I’ve been deeply involved in our local community here in Charlotte, North Carolina, through the Queen City Jack and Jill Teen Leadership Conferences. These experiences, alongside a wide range of volunteer efforts, have truly enriched my life. Whether it’s feeding the homeless, organizing clothing and school supply drives, or gathering books for those in need, I’ve been honored to give back to my community in meaningful ways.
I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to learn about other cultures and broaden my perspective. Through leadership training, I’ve gained valuable skills like conducting business meetings using Robert’s Rules of Order and speaking confidently in public settings. These experiences have strengthened my ability to lead with purpose and connect with others in diverse environments.
As a Teen Youth Leader at my church, I take pride in leading in prayer, serving as an acolyte, participating in volunteer activities, and occasionally performing the “Call to Worship” for the congregation. Each opportunity allows me to grow spiritually and serve others with compassion. I am also incredibly proud to be one of the founding leaders and spokesperson for my high school’s very first Black Student Union. It’s a privilege to help create a space where students can come together, celebrate our culture, and drive positive change within the school community.
Beyond academics and leadership roles, I’ve found joy in giving back to tennis, the sport that has become my passion. I’ve had the opportunity to assist younger players at the tennis academy I attend, sharing what I’ve learned and helping them develop their own love for the game. It’s been fulfilling to watch their growth and to be part of their journey, just as others have supported mine.
Thank You
